ハワード・フィリップス・ラヴクラフト
善、悪、道徳、感情？ 単なる「ヴィクトリア朝風の虚構」だ。ただひとつ、エゴイズムだけが存在する。冷たく、揺るぎなく、輝かしいかたちで。―
言わずと知れたクトゥルフ神話の作者です。
クトゥルフ神話は、まあ好きな人は好きだし、興味がない人は興味がないですね。
皆さん、どこからクトゥルフ神話に入るんですかね。
私は、ハドソンのPCエンジンゲーム『邪聖剣ネクロマンサー』で知りました。
2020年3月19日販売予定の、PCエンジンminiにも収録されています。
おすすめの仲間は、やはりバロンとロミナです。（世界一の嘘つきに私はなる!!!!）
私はプレイしたことはないですが、『腐界に眠る王女のアバドーン』もクトゥルフ神話をオマージュしています。
2019年10月31日販売された、PS4ゲーム『The Sinking City ～シンキング シティ～』も、クトゥルフ神話をオマージュしています。
青空文庫にいくつかありますので、興味がある方は読んでどうぞ。
さて、そのクトゥルフ神話を執筆したラヴクラフトは、どういう人間だったかというと、生前は全く無名の存在でした。小説の添削をしながら、なんとか生活をする日々です。
『クトゥルフ神話』自体も、パルプ・フィクションに載った作品です。
パルプ・フィクションは、某有名映画ではないです。薄い安手の書籍のことです。
『文豪ストレイドッグス』に、ラヴクラフトをモデルにしたキャラクターが登場します。
声優は、武内駿輔さんが演じています。
武内駿輔さんは、まだ20代前半なんですね。30歳超えていると思っていた。
ラヴクラフトは何作か読んだが、ファンではない。しかし後の創作に少なからず影響を与える人気作家と認識している。 手持ちのアメリカ文学史の本を読み返したら、彼の名も作品も記載されていない。生前無名だったとは言え、斯様に文壇から無視された存在なのかと驚きを禁じ得ない。カワイソス pic.twitter.com/kuhiNK6pp8

The poetical tendency of the present and of the preceding century has been divided in a manner singularly curious.
Man's respect for the imponderables varies according to his mental constitution and environment. Through certain modes of thought and training it can be elevated tremendously, yet there is always a limit.
